Villa ARSINOI

4-5 persons self catering.

Villa Arsinoi is situated in the midlle of the way from MALIA to Village Sissi. Just 1k.m. from MINOAN PALACE of Mallia, the thierd largest MINOAN PALACE built in a wonderful setting near the sea.

Villa Arsinoi is 80 sq.m. separate with 1500 metres of plot with olives trees and fruits trees. In the house there are two bedrooms (one double and one twin) bathroom with shower/ wc. It has a front aspect lounge/ dinner with open fireplace and open-plan kitchenette with cooker, oven & fridge. There is a Family Taverna near to the house and you can taste traditional food.

MALIA is located 37 km east of Heraklion. The sandy beaches of the Sea of Crete to the north, the mountain of Dikti to the south, and a little valley lying between them - this is the peaceful scene we see on reaching Malia, 37 km east of Heraklion or 25 Km west of Agios Nikolaos. Malia Minoan Palace To the east of the modern resort is the Minoan Palace of Malia. This is the third-largest Minoan palace in Crete, built in a wonderful setting near the sea, on the road linking eastern and central Crete. This palace - the seat, according to myth, of Minos’ brother Sarpedon - was first constructed circa 1900 BC. The already large settlement, some parts of which are preserved around the palace, thus became a palace-city. This first palace was destroyed circa 1700 BC and rebuilt circa 1650 BC, on the same site and with the same layout. Finally the new palace was destroyed circa 1450 BC and not reoccupied. During the Mycenaean period a small building, probably a sanctuary, was constructed in the ruins. At Malia we can actually walk around the actual palace, just as it was uncovered by archaeological excavations. Most of the ruins visible today belong to the Neopalatial complex - the second palace - whose rooms are set around three courts: the Central Court, the North Court and the Tower Court. The majestic size, complex plan and multiple details of the palace make it a fascinating place to visit. Life here was much the same as in the other palaces. Let’s try to imagine Minoan daily life, the ceremonies and festivities held in the great court…

SISSI is situated 2klm from villa and it is a small fish village with a very picturesque port and is a very popular to tourists. Sissi is known for the fresh fish its hot waters in its beaches. For those who love walking and riding the bicycle, there exist natural paths that lead the visitor to virgin natural landscapes. Here can someone get to know the traditional Cretan way of life. The visitor can enjoy fresh fish by the beach in the graphic taverns of the village. The small graphic port of Sissi resembles a natural swimming-pool and is ideal for romantic night walks. In the Eastern side of the village there is the sandy beach of Boufou and the romantic beach in Aulaki.

It is worth visiting the traditional villages of Ano Sissi and Vrahasi. The traditional village of Vrahassi is just a few kilometres east from Sissi. Upon entering Vrahassi from the east (the old national road between Agios Nikolaos and Heraklion), you'll see the village square with its quaint kafeneion and food emporiums.

Taking a road parallel to the village's main street, you come upon the interesting old narrow streets of the town. Walking along, you will see an old water fountain and several old windmills. Uphill from this point is a second square which is tree-lined and cobble-stoned, and is complete with another old sculptured fountain and the town's famous plane tree.

About 3 kilometres from Vrahassi there is an important historical monument - an old monastery and the church of St. George of Vrahassi, with its imposing belfry of original architecture.

MILATOS is located a few km east of Sissi and Malia, approximately 30 km west of Agios Nikolaos and 45 km east of Heraklion. Milatos Beach is a by-the-sea development with many very good fish tavernas, a fishing port and a nice small beach in it. There are other beach areas, but they are very rocky.

In ancient times, Milatos (Militos) was an important city with various colonies, and was one of only seven Cretan cities that sent troops to fight in Troy. Milatos Village, with its kafeneion-tavernas, is a picturesque community about a kilometer before the coastal Milatos settlement. Many Europeans have bought old village homes here, and refurbished them in the original style. Armed with a camera, a walk through the narrow village streets will provide you with many wonderful snap-shot memories of your holiday.
